Pure sulfur dioxide has various applications: both in industry and agriculture.
- Sulfur dioxide is used as a component for the production of sulfurous acid, in laboratories as a solvent;
- Sulfur dioxide has significant disinfectant properties, so it is often used to combat various parasites of bacterial or fungal nature. This chemical compound is used to treat warehouses with agricultural products, wine barrels, and basement premises.
- Sulfur dioxide is also used in the food industry as a preservative and antimicrobial agent.
Sulfur dioxide belongs to hazard class 2.2. It is a non-flammable, highly toxic gas. Toxicity hazard class 3. Under normal temperature conditions, it does not explode, but the likelihood of an explosion increases when heated.
Sulfurous gas can be transported by land transport - by car, rail, or water. Special containers (cylinders or barrels) made of steel with high carbon content are required for transportation.
